IMPORTANCE OF WILLS

WHAT IF YOU DIE TOMORROW..........WITHOUT A WILL?

It is a harsh and cold reality that we must all face, one day we will all pass away leaving our loved ones to sort out our assets, liabilities and of course their own emotions. We should try to make this process as easy as possible for our loved ones by simply making a Will.

WHAT IS A WILL

A Will is a written statement containing your wishes and instructions as to how your property and assets are to be distributed after your death. It is a legal document which should be in compliance with the formalities of your choice of governing legislation. A Will should contain the names of the people you want to benefit, as well as details of your possessions at the date of your death.

AGE FOR WILL

Some say “I am too young to make a Will” but I say you are never too young to die leaving some form of assets in the form of a bank account, a car, a boat, land, shares, house, furniture, insurance policies, or even just sentimental personal items such as jewellery. You should consider making a Will to ensure that your treasured assets fall in the hands of the loved ones you choose and not in the hands of the judiciary for their decision and distribution which could take years.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • What if both parents die in the same accident?
  • What if one parent dies, what happens to the property they jointly owned?
  • What about the children of the deceased spouse?
  • What if there are stepchildren of the surviving spouse?
  • Who will take care of your children?
  • Who will make the decisions and what will happen to your properties?
  • What if one of your children dies at an early unexpected age after you?

These are just a few of the many questions that you should carefully consider before it is too late.

HOW DO I GET A WILL

Your first step is to contact a local lawyer who is a specialist in this area to ensure that your children will be in the hands of someone you trust and your property will be distributed as you wish.
